Cable network CNN has named Jake Tapper the next anchor of their Sunday talk show “State of the Union.” Tapper, who currently anchors “The Lead” for CNN weekdays, will take over for Candy Crowley, the long-time Sunday anchor who announced her departure in December. CNN’s “State of the Union” is a “political interview” program and they tout Tappers authority on politics and his positive reviews for his interim stint hosting ABC’s “This Week” in 2010 in making the announcement. Tapper, who joined CNN in 2013, will take the anchor chair in June and will also continue to serve as CNN’s chief Washington correspondent and anchor of “The Lead.” His promotion to the Sunday anchor chair is the latest seat shift on Sundays, following Chuck Todd’s ascension to host of “Meet the Press” on NBC and John Dickerson’s recent selection to be the next moderator of CBS’ “Face the Nation.” More at CNN.com
