POLITICO Expands ‘Playbook’ Brand, Grows State Presence


POLITICO’s expansion continues. The news company announced today, citing successes and recent growth, that it will rebrand their Capital New York outlet as POLITICO New York and that they plan to launch similar operations in New Jersey and Florida in the months to come. The outlet also said it will begin publishing state-specific morning tipsheets, like Mike Allen’s “Playbook,” in California, Illinois and Massachusetts later this year. The announcement to start covering politics and policy at the state level is POLITICO’s latest effort to expand its brand and bolster its status as a political news leader. POLITICO also announced today a number of new hires in Brussels ahead of the April 21 launch of POLITICO Europe. POLITICO was founded 8 years ago with a staff of 35 and now has a team of more than 400 with presences in D.C., Manhattan, Albany, Brussells, London, Paris and Berlin.
