Beefing up their editorial team ahead of the 2018 and 2020 elections, POLITICO is adding Chris Suellentrop as a senior editor for POLITICO Magazine. Suellentrop joins POLITICO after serving as the political editor for the New York Times Magazine, as a staff editor of the Times’ Op-Ed page where he edited an award-winning piece for the magazine, and as the founder of the Times ‘Opinionator’ blog.

POLITICO editor Carrie Budoff Brown welcomed Suellentrop in a staff email, describing him as “wildly smart and creative”, and noted that he will be “playing a major role in our [2018 and 2020] coverage,” working with writers at POLITICO Magazine and in the POLITICO newsroom.

Prior to joining the Times, he served as the deputy editor of Yahoo News and published stories in Wired, New York, Grantland, and NewYorker.com as a freelance writer.

Suellentrop will start on January 8th.
