The Washington Post will soon have a new national education writer. Laura Meckler, a 13-year veteran of The Wall Street Journal, will be joining The Post after covering politics and the White House.

During her time with The Journal, Meckler covered three consecutive presidential campaigns, the first term of the Obama White House, shifting American demographics, and immigration. Prior to joining The Journal, Meckler covered health care and social policy for the Associated Press.

In 1999, Meckler won the Livingston Award for National Reporting for her work on organ donation and transplant problems. She was also awarded a Nieman Fellowship at Harvard University in 2003.

Meckler will begin with The Post at the end of the month.
