Lisa Lerer Joins the New York Times’ Politics Desk

08.14.18

Veteran political reporter Lisa Lerer will join the New York Times covering national politics. She will also write the Times’ Politics newsletter with Tom Wright-Piersanti who moves from the Metro desk to politics.

Prior to joining the Times, Lerer covered politics for the Associated Press, including the 2016 presidential campaign. She recently finished Harvard’s yearlong Nieman fellowship, where she conducted research on women-led activism and Democratic resistance to the Trump Administration. Before writing for the AP, Lerer covered politics, Congress and the White House for Bloomberg News, Businessweek magazine and POLITICO.

The Times’ politics editor Patrick Healy praised her experience, describing Lerer as “one of the sharpest listeners and thinkers covering voters and issues today.”

She begins at the Times later this month.
