Stanley Cup’s Value is Etched Into it

06.13.13

ALTHOUGH I live in the Washington area, I read and listen to Boston sports media daily. What I can’t understand is this notion making the rounds that winning the Stanley Cup this year would “legitimize” the 2011 Bruins championship. Nonsense.

The Stanley Cup playoffs are the most grueling, violent, and challenging championship gauntlet in all of sport. Winning the Cup is based on nothing less than grit. Any Stanley Cup championship is something to be cherished and valued, even if it is just one. That’s why they etch the winners’ names on the Cup — because it takes mettle to win it.
