The Associated Press named Steven Sloan to run their national political reporting team. As political editor, Sloan will cover the 2018 elections and the 2020 presidential race.

In a memo to staff announcing the move, AP’s Washington Bureau Chief Julie Pace praised Sloan, describing him as “an experienced editor who is enthusiastic about politics, driven to break news and produce distinctive enterprise.”

Sloan joins AP from CNN, where he most recently served as the director of enterprise. He also launched a digital magazine at CNN that focused on politics, national security and culture with digital graphics and animation.
