The Wall Street Journal Names Matt Murray as Editor-in-Chief

Matthew J. Murray has been named Editor-in-Chief of The Wall Street Journal and Dow Jones Newswires. Current Editor-in-Chief Gerard Baker will assume the role of Editor-at-Large.

In a statement to The Journal, Baker praised Murray, stating “I am honored to hand over the reins of this venerable institution to Matt Murray, an editor of unsurpassed quality and a trusted friend and colleague.”

Murray is a long-time veteran of The Journal. He began his tenure at Dow Jones & Company in 1994 as a reporter, and went on to cover banking for The Journal’s Money & Investing section. In 2004, Murray joined the news desk, and was later appointed as a Deputy Managing Editor. He has been serving as Deputy Editor-in-Chief since 2013.

During Murray’s time as Deputy Editor-in-Chief, The Wall Street Journal was awarded a Pulitzer Prize for its 2014 coverage on Medicare fraud.

Murray will start in his new role on Monday, June 11th.
