By adding two political reporters and an editor, National Public Radio (NPR) is gearing up for a busy reporting season ahead of the 2018 elections. Here’s how NPR plans to cover the midterms:

Tim Mak will join as a political reporter and will cover conservatives, as he had previously at the Daily Beast and Washington Examiner. In addition, he will support NPR’s current coverage of Russia’s interference in US politics, propaganda, and the 2018 election.

Former NPR political reporter Asma Khalid will return to NPR starting on February 5th to continue her reporting on “the political impact of America’s changing demographics, with a sharpened focus on work and family finances.” In this familiar role, she will join Tamara Keith and Scott Detrow as a host of the NPR Politics Podcast. She returns to NPR after covering tech and economic issues for NPR’s Boston affiliate, WBUR.

Veteran political reporter Brett Neely will also make a return to NPR Politics after serving as an editor on NPR’s national desk where he supported station reporters across the country covering state houses. Neely will continue as an editor with a focus on the 2018 election.
