Chris Cillizza joins CNN following more than a decade at the Washington Post

Longtime political writer Chris Cillizza is joining CNN, after leading the Washington Post’s online political reporting for nearly a dozen years. Cillizza’s coverage of the political machinations of Washington made his trademark blog, “The Fix,” a must-read for D.C. denizens and made Cillizza into a prominent political pundit. The Post announced that “The Fix” would continue after Cillizza’s departure, staffed by their team of political reporters, bloggers and editors.

Cillizza described the move – which will allow him to increase his cable TV appearances – to POLITICO by saying, “I’ve been looking for the opportunity to do it all under one roof… Having a place to do the writing and the television piece and do it all under one umbrella — that’s a pretty unique deal. It’s not easy to find.”

His Post colleagues, in a memo, wrote they were sad to see Cillizza go and described him as their “pioneering political blogger” and a “tireless evangelist for Post political coverage.” The Fix will remain the Post’s “flagship political blog.”

At CNN, Cillizza will serve as a reporter and editor-at-large and will contribute to on-air broadcasts and on CNN’s digital platform. For CNN, the Cillizza hire represents another high-profile investment in digital content. The cable network previously hired Andrew Kaczynski and his investigative team from Buzzfeed to bolster their digital product and writers Kate Bennett and Hunter Schwarz to write about the intersection of politics and culture.
