02.15.18

Rachel Stassen-Berger is the new Des Moines Register politics editor. Stassen-Berger joins the Register after two decades covering politics and government in Minnesota, including as capitol bureau chief for the St. Paul Pioneer Press. She also served as the Minneapolis Star Tribune’s politics reporter covering elections, campaign finance, policy and governing.

Rachel Stassen-Berger is joining the Register as a politics editor at a key moment ahead of both the 2018 and 2020 elections. Keeping with tradition, the 2020 Iowa Caucuses are the “first in the nation” and as always, will carry significant influence on the presidential primaries. Stassen-Berger will officially begin in March 2018.

Most recently, as capitol bureau chief, Stassen-Berger led the team of reporters covering Minnesota governing, politics and national security for the Pioneer Press, as well as serving as the chief political reporter.

The Register announced Stassen-Berger’s new position and she shared it on Twitter.
