Jason Leopold joins BuzzFeed News as a senior investigative reporter

Jason LeopoldJason Leopold will be joining BuzzFeed News’ investigative team as a senior investigative reporter, based out of Los Angeles. According to Poynter, BuzzFeed plans on giving Leopold a lot of freedom in what he will cover, but he is expected to pay close attention to national security.

Leopold joins BuzzFeed from VICE News serving as a senior investigative reporter, where he began as an investigative reporter in 2014. Previously, Leopold has held positions at Al Jazeera America and The Los Angeles Times.He is also a co-founder of The Public Record.

Leopold is known for his investigative reporting skills including his use of the Freedom of Information Act to unearth government documents. On his own, he has brought more FOIA lawsuits than any other news organization besides The New York Times.

Investigative Editor for BuzzFeed News Mark Schoofs said, “As we enter a new and uncharted era in covering the federal government, Jason will build on that track record here with us.” Schoofs also referred to Leopold as an “ace reporter and FOIA Jedi warrior.”
