Adding to its campaign team ahead of an already-busy election season, The Washington Post has hired Matt Viser to report on national politics. Before joining the Post, Viser spent almost two decades at The Boston Globe.

In an internal memo distributed on Monday, the Post announced the addition of Viser saying, “As a member of our growing campaign team, Matt will play a leading role in covering the final stretch of the midterms while helping put The Post in position to dominate coverage of the 2020 presidential election.”

While at the Globe, Viser most recently served as deputy D.C. bureau chief and previously covered the 2012 and 2016 presidential elections, focusing on Republicans Mitt Romney and Donald Trump.

In 2013, Viser received the Everett McKinley Dirksen Award for Distinguished Reporting of Congress for his contributions to The Globe’s “Broken City” series. At the 2016 White House Correspondents’ Dinner, Viser received the Merriam Smith Memorial Award for deadline reporting.

He will start at The Post on October 1st.
