Fox News Channel announced that Tucker Carlson will be the new host of its 9pm program, succeeding Megyn Kelly, who is joining NBC later this year.

For the past two months, Carlson has hosted “Tucker Carlson Tonight” during the 7 p.m. hour on Fox. Prior to that, he anchored “Fox & Friends Weekend” and hosted several programs for MSNBC and CNN. He also co-founded the conservative news site Daily Caller.

Rupert Murdoch, 21st Century Fox and Fox News executive chairman, praised Carlson saying, “In less than two months, Tucker has taken cable news by storm with his spirited interviews and consistently strong performance. Viewers have overwhelmingly responded to the show and we look forward to him being a part of Fox News’ powerful primetime line-up.” Carlson will move to 9pm starting January 9.
